Featured writer: Karen Ulrich

I first met Karen Ulrich a couple of years back, at a lunchtime tasting hosted by the Wine Media Guild of New York. I came away from the event with two thoughts:

  1. Drinking at lunch doesn’t exactly help my writing after lunch.
  2. The people who come out to WMG events are an incredibly knowledgeable and very nice group of people.

Although I haven’t become an active WMG member, I’m still in touch with some of my table-mates from that day, including Karen. She’s fine company – warm and welcoming, and very knowledgeable about wine, especially for someone so young. She shares her knowledge as a NY wine gadfly on her Imbibe New York blog, where she reviews wine bars, boutiques, and wine events. Karen also contributes to the fabulous Edible Magazine franchise, where she celebrates wines from the East End.

With a BFA in Photography and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from the NewS chool, Karen earned the WSET Advanced Certificate, and is now the Program Co-Chair for the Wine Media Guild of New York.  A seasoned traveler, she seeks to tickle the senses, with pictures and words, and food and wine.

But really, she says, it’s the yoga and running that keeps her sane.

Visit her at www.Karen-Ulrich.com. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get to share a glass of vino with Karen at Lolita on June 15.
