Thanks again to all those who came out Feb 5 for the national launch of Drink.Think in San Francisco. We had a great time at Cantina, including some outstanding drinks and dazzling readings from some of the Bay area’s top drink writers. Just take a look at the photos below (all taken by the talented Julia Dio).

All of the writers were amazing. Poems about botrytis? Check! Tequila-fueled travel writing? Check and check! But clearly we had two “fan favorites”:  Camper English reading a hilarious poem (written about a certain speakeasy from a Yelper’s point of view), called “Who Do I Have To F-ck To Get A Drink Around Here?” and Virginia Miller‘s personal essay, written just for the event, about growing up in a dry household – and still developing a love for alcohol. For both of these, you just had to be there.

It was great to see so many people turn out to support their favorite writers.

And the drinks!  Cantina created for us two truly fabulous cocktails (That’s the 1796 Nightcap on the left, in the coupe glass, made with Santa Teresa 1796 Rum, and the Marmalade Cooler on the right, made with Karlsson’s Gold Vodka). The recipes are published below – please do give these a try at home.

 1796 NIGHTCAP

Created by Shaher Misif, Cantina, for Drink.Think

Stirred, boozy, and sophisticated.

1.5 oz. Santa Teresa 1796 Rum

.75 oz. Cocchi Americano

1 barspoon Averna Amaro

2 dashes rosewater

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir 40 times, and strain into a cocktail coupe. Garnish with orange twist.

MARMALADE COOLER

Light and refreshing, served tall with a straw.

1 small barspoon marmalade

1.5 ounce Karlsson’s Gold Vodka

1 ounce fresh lime juice

.5 ounce Pineapple Gomme syrup

1 ounce ginger beer

Angostura bitters

In a shaker, combine marmalade, vodka, lime juice and syrup. Shake with ice, and strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Top with ginger beer and douse with bitters. Garnish with an orange slice.
